Surface Book with 2560x1080 monitor

I can't get Surface Book to run LG 29UM67 ext. monitor at full 2560x1080 resolution. I have a Core I5, Intel HD 520 graphics. The max (and recommended) resolution shown is 1920x1080.

I had a similar problem driving a 2560x1080 widescreen monitor from upstar... The drivers wouldn't update and none of the intel drivers would install.

The solution for me was getting the surface dock... for $200 https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/accessories/surface-dock

But it works and now I have two external monitors (an old dell at 1200x1920 and the aforementioned upstart at 2560x1080)
