Hi Greg,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Office Community and We will be glad to assist you with your concern. It looks like there might be a conflict or corrupt installation files.
Let us follow the steps and verify the results.
Method 1:
Try opening Excel in safe mode and check. Follow the steps:
1. Click on Start ->All Programs.
2. Go to Accessories -> Click on RUN.
3. Type Excel /safe (leave a space after Excel) -> Click OK.
If Excel safe works, then follow the steps disable the add-ins:
1. Click on File -> Go to Options.
2. Click on Add-ins -> select an add-in type ->Click Go
3.Uncheck the Add-ins to disable -> Click OK.
Method 2:
If that does not help, then this issue may occur if there are any Excel template present in the Excel Startup folder.
Let’s start with clearing these files. Follow these steps:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\XLStart
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
Note: Take a backup of files before deleting the files.
Method 3:
If the issue persists, you may repair Office 2013 application and check:

I hope the steps provided fixes the issue. If not reply and we will be glad to assist you further.

Yes it appears if you have a network printer as default that is not currently available that it blows up excel when doing formatting... Shame. Anyway defaulted my adobe acrobat printer and all is good.
