Office 365 In Place Archive not showing in Outlook 2016

Split from this thread.

Today I upgraded my Office 365 for MAC to the 2016 version.  With OUTLOOK, I ran into issues right away when trying to migrate my OUTLOOK data from 2011 to 2016 version.  It locked into an unfixable loop by demanding that a SYNC Server app be closed, which was of course unclosable.  Anyway, I took my computer offline, rebooted, got the same error message, but oddly the old data showed up, and all was sort of OK.  But, I also went for the OneDrive option as I want to just grab inbox emails, a few hundred at a time, and put them into Online Archive.  BUT, there is no apparent, simple, clear, reasonable, sane way to just do this as advertised.  Where is the Online Archive?  How do I access it?  IS it in a menu dropdown?  A button?

Hi Jack,

I understand you cannot find the Online Archive folder when you upgrade from Outlook for Mac 2011 to Outlook for Mac 2016. To further investigate the issue, I’d like to confirm the following information first:
1. Which Office 365 subscription are you using now?
2. How did you configure your account in the Outlook client, via Exchange or POP/IMAP?
3. Can you see the In-place Archive folder in the Outlook Web App? If yes, can you manually drag emails to that folder?
4. Do other users who use Outlook 2016 for Mac in your organization have the same issue?
5. If possible, could you please set up your account in the Outlook for Mac (2011 or 2016) client on another Mac and check if the archive folder will appear?

Any updates will be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Re #1, not sure I understand the query.  I have an Office 365 multi-computer license with currently 4 MAC's using it, 1 on 2016, the rest on 2011.

Re #2, email is setup via IMAP, domains are in YahooSmallBusiness, which is far from ideal

Re #3, yes I can see the Archive folder in Outlook.com, and I can drag messages within Outlook.com into it, but cannot drag emails from the Outlook application to Outlook.com

Re #4, NA as afraid to upgrade them at this time due to issues seen on my own upgrade process yesterday.

Re #5, will try that I guess, but am reluctant to install further instances, as per initial submission.

Hi Jack,

Could you please give more detailed information?

Are you using an account from Outlook.com or Office 365? If your account is from Outlook.com, to ensure you receive  professional assistance, I recommend you post on Office Forum at:

social.technet.microsoft.com/.../home

If your account is from Office 365, it’s not feasible to  achieve Exchange Online Archiving by using IMAP in the Outlook client. Thank for your understanding.

To use Exchange Online Archiving, I suggest you set up an account via Autodiscover. Please refer to the following article:

Note:

Only Office 365 Enterprise E3 plan, Office 365 Government E3 plan, Office 365 Enterprise E4 plan and Office 365 Government E4 plan have online archiving.

Regards,

Noah
