Skype for Business display of in-room camera with Logitech SmartDock hardware

Hello,

Please take a look at the photo below.

We're using Microsoft's Skype for Business software with Logitech's SmartDock for Large Rooms system. Logitech support say this is a software issue relating to Microsoft's product, and that I should bring it to Microsoft support. Of course I know what Microsoft support will say..

The display of the in-room camera doesn't scale with with the rest of the display elements in Skype for Business. You'll see on our 70" display in this photo, the in-room camera is displayed in the area of about 1".  Too small.

The camera display is so small, that we're not able tell who the camera is pointed to effectively use the features of the Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera.

How can the size of the in-room camera display be modified? It must be set somewhere.

Where can I find support for this software?

Hi Michael,

As far as I know, we can adjust the settings of Skype for Business video call via https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Set-Video-Device-options-in-Skype-for-Business-d09017c0-deba-4f6c-a122-9eca6604f50c (It also provides some trobleshooting steps about the video/display for Skype for Business). Besides this, there is no other settings regrading this. By the way, since it is the display of the camera, you may try changing another camera.

Meanwhile, I'd like to know if you can use your Skype for Business normally (especially, video call). The reason why I confirm this is because "in-room camera of Skype for Business room system" is a combination between Skype for Business and Logitech SmartDock. If your Skype for Business can work well alone, the settings should be controlled by Logitech SmartDock. This is also the reason why I mentioned "adjusting the Skype for Business vide settings".

Regards,
Alan

The thing is that the product ships with it's own flavour of Skype for Business for the Logitech SmartDock running on a Surface Pro 4. It's unclear who developed the software, who is responsible for issues with the software, or even where issues can be reported.

Logitech claim that this is a software issue that can only be handled by Microsoft.

Microsoft doesn't seem to have a way to offer support for this software.

Yes, the in-room camera displays fine in the regular Skype for Business software.

But as you can see in the screenshot, the display doesn't scale correctly while using the Logitech SmartDock.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your feedback.

As you mentioned, the in-room displays fine in the regular Skype for Business software. So, the issue may not related to the Skype for Business.

However, I notice your organization is using Microsoft's Skype for Business software with Logitech's SmartDock for Large Rooms system and using the PTZ Camera. So, I'd like to confirm if the PTZ camera is Logitech PTZ Pro camera. If so, it may the root cause of this issue. Since the PTZ camera isn't suit for the Large room system. For detailed information, please see: Skype Room Systems v2 requirements.

Regards,

Rudy

The camera is sold as part of the Logitech Group hardware, listed as the 2nd link in the hardware table.

https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/conferencecam-group

Not sure why Microsoft would partner with Logitech to sell a hardware package that is not compatible with their software? The system is advertised on Microsoft's web sites right now:

See this product advertised by Microsoft here:

http://partnersolutions.skypeforbusiness.com/solutionscatalog/meeting-room-systems/logitech-smart-dock

Where can I file an issue for this software? It's still no clear who released it, Microsoft or Logitech? Logitech support says it's a Microsoft software issue.

Thank you!

Hi Michael,

I totally understand your feeling.

However, as I have mentioned above, since your Skype for Business service (camera, video, etc) works perfectly, the issue should be the camera side. Moreover, this camera isn't supported by Microsoft as it is the product of Logitech. And, the second link (http://partnersolutions.skypeforbusiness.com/solutionscatalog/meeting-room-systems/logitech-smart-dock) is for stating that the large room system is the combination between Skype for Business and Logitech but not a advertising of this camera). So, it is recommeded that you contact Logitech or the camera seller for detailed explanation. Appreciation on your understanding.

Alan

Where can I file an issue for the software distributed with the Logitech Group hardware?

Logitech say that Microsoft created and maintain this flavour of Skype software. Could someone other than Allan confirm this?

Thank you!
