Check out Story Remix in Build 16193

Today at Build we unveiled a big update coming to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and Windows Insiders are the first to try it! Story Remix is an evolution of the Photos app that makes it easy to create memories with video stories from your photos and videos.

Story Remix uses its understanding of your content to find collections of content most relevant to you and automatically brings it together into video stories – each with a soundtrack, theme, and transitions. You can keep these suggested video stories, remix them with just a click of a button, or edit them yourself in story editor.

Watch the Story Remix video and learn more about the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on the Windows Blog.

I did get it in the updated Photos app (Version 17.504.10020.0), and what a let down!

It is way too basic, and could never pass as a replacement for Windows Movie Maker (which I love!).  For example, you are restricted to including files that are associated with the Photos app.  You can't get a file from File Explorer.  If you want to include a video from your video folder, you would have to add that folder to places where Photos should look.  Also, the feature lacks such a basic tool as "apply to all."  And then when I tried to export something I created, it wouldn't.  It got stuck at "creating preview - 0%" for 5 minutes, and I gave up.  The project only contained 3 photos for a duration of 9 seconds.  I have no idea in what form it would save a video, and it seems the only place it will save it is OneDrive.  I want to choose either MP4 or WMV for the format, and be able so save it to my C drive.  What a tremendous disappointment!

Also, it really irritates me that the new Photos app looks through every photo to assign keywords, which are often wrong, and proudly displays "Recently spotted" in the header.  That's got to stop!

If done properly, I would be very happy if the 2012 version of Windows Movie Maker was put through Desktop Bridge to convert it to UWP, had some of the cool effects as shown in the Story Remix demo added while not removing any features or tools from the existing Movie Maker, and was made available in the Store.

If anyone agrees, please upvote in Feedback Hub.

(For anyone who isn't familiar with Desktop Bridge, it's a utility Microsoft created for software designers and engineers to easily convert traditional desktop programs to self-contained app packages that can be distributed and installed through the Store.)
