FSX crashes under Windows 8.1

Hi All,

I've just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and FSX now crashes whenever I press "Fly Now" on the Free Flight screen.  I can still play missions, just not free flight.

FSX worked perfectly prior to the upgrade on Windows 8.  The computer is new, a Samsung All-In-One with i7 processor and Nvidia graphics.

I've looked online and have found others have had the same problem but haven't found a solution.  I've tried a complete removal and reinstall.  I've reinstalled it outside of the Program Files directory.  I've tried installing and running in various compatibility modes.  I've tried installing and running in Administrator Mode.  I've tried a clean boot.

Can anyone give me any assistance? I've contacted Microsoft but they've wiped their hands of FSX...

Hi,

I had the same issue but find how to to fix ( free flight crash while missions works)
make sure you run the FSX in windows Vista service pack 2.
then you start FSX, go to settings, then personnalize. in the graphic card tab, tick the box related to previez Directx 10.

then try free flight. it worked for me.
good luck.

Mr. Yann, thank you very much for your intelligent and effective remedy.  This worked for me ... on my FSX I selected "Settings", then "Customize", and then checked the box for "Preview DirectX 10".  It now works for all FSX aircraft (although not for the Just Flight Airbus Series, an add-on DVD for additional aircraft).

Again, thank you for your valuable help, and Merry Christmas!
