Sorry they are actually a market research tool implemented by Activision in order slowly administer fees for items that used to be free in game such as weapon attachments, skins etc.  I can see it now, THE RED DOT SIGHT DLC PACK - 100 MS Points.  It won't  happen overnight but it's coming folks.

Doubt it.  it breaks an unsaid rule of video game development.  don't give unfair advantages to people with more money.  I believe Activision is aiming at something more along the lines of a subscription to be able to play cod.  According to them though, this comes with the added benefits of better continued support of games by their respective developers and extra content to subscribing members at no extra charge.

It may not have happened to console games yet but mobile games, aka iphone, are riddled with options that let you get further faster by paying. It is terrible that people will actually pay to get things in a game that would have just taken a little extra time to get.

I think his second post was meant to be the original.  As for AAA multiplayer titles, the day they start giving people advantages for spending their money on in game items is the day I sell my xbox.

"Items that used to be free in game".... lol

They were free, but you had to be a certain level to unlock them. In Black Ops you play a couple games and you earn the COD Points the same way you would have earned XP in MW2 or CoD4. XP unlocked items in previous games just like they do in Black Ops, it just wasn't implemented the same way. It's better with the COD Points system IMO.

I can see activision making you pay for extra weapon packs in the future.
