Backwards compatibility problem

Im trying to play The elder scrolls 3: morrowind

It is a legit disc in a case and everything

xbox 360 arcade

60g hdd

Error message reads: This original xox game is not supported on your 360 console. An update to support this game may be available. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/game.

X: 5805.0 B: 1884.0

I have updated my 360 to the fullest. The game is on xboxs official backwards compatibility list http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/how-to/play-original-games. But it still keeps giving me the same error message. What should i do? The only thing i could think of would be that the morrowind is GOTY edition but i googled around and a lot of people said that it works fine. Any help on the topic would be appreciated.

Much thanks,

Darnell Elwood

Can you try playing that disc on another console? Do other original Xbox titles work on your console?

You need to play the game while connected to Xbox Live, it will then download a patch which will allow you to play the game. After downloading this patch you can disconnect from Xbox Live and you will still be able to play.

RancidNote - nope, it hasn't been updated in a few years, and there are no plans to add further titles to it.

You can find a list online, pretty easily, of what games are actually supported, though.

UlcerousComb - Possibly!  The Official Xbox Magazine discs used to contain all of the current backwards compatibility updates.  I'm not sure if they still do, or if the new dashboard affects this in any way, but I uesd them to update all of our 360's in Afghanistan a couple of years back.  Was a huge benefit.  There hasn't been an update in a couple of years, so probably any disc after like 2008 or 2009 should update pretty much for any game that works.  Good luck!

seriously. how hard is it for the low grade geeks to submit a Back pack that has the encodings of the 15 previous programming companies. the first xbox only had 5g of memory, now we got ones near or exceeding a terrabite. one 1g update shouldn't have any issues. I mean seriously, if we have packs that are 5g for just one game. why not put it out there. then we could enjoy all the good old days of Fable and Morrowind, star wars KOTR I & II

I am having the same problem except the error message says that the game cannot start. I recently bought morrowind and a brand new 360gb HDD and It won't download any patches. I do have the latest console update and i am on xbox live gold. I also have it for PC but I want to play it without having to use console commands for everything.

Suggestions?
