Xbox dvd drive

Sorry if I posted in the wrong section, but if a xbox red ring of death would the dvd drive still work?

What do you want to know by this? If you take the drive out and use it for something else? Or will it still play DVD's? Well RROD means the Xbox has had a hardware failure so taking the drive out and using it for something else might work but that is hardware tampering and against the rules. Left in the Xbox it will not work as the hardware has failed. Hope this answers your question.
