This gamertag is not valid.

It may be an ofline account or it may not be alowed. Have yo checked ever meaning of whatever words are in The gamertag?

Short answer is that if it says the gamer tag is invalid, sorry to say there's nothing that can be done. It may be in use somewhere else in the MS network (Xbox music, games for windows live). Or it may be in use with different spacing or capitalization, the system doesn't differentiate between 'gamer Tag' and 'GamErtag' as being different GTs.

@Force Mythic there's nothing in appropriate in it in any way shape or form, you could stick it on a corporate office door and no one would think a thing of it

@MLP37 If that were the case, IT would say this gamertag has been taken. and I tried spacing it out [took a while to do], there is nothing what so ever.

Also if it were being used by other services such as that, I'd still be able to add any of the variations [Spaced out or not]  as a friend.

Most of the time if you are seeing a message saying the GT you want is unavailable, it’s true. One thing to remember is that spaces and capitalization don’t make your GT unique. For example, “Major Nelson”, “MajorNelson”, and “MaJoRnElSoN” are all the same GT.

GTs are also tied to services like Zune or Games for Windows LIVE. If a GT doesn't exist on Xbox, it might be in use on one of those services. If you try sending the GT you want a friend request and it says it’s not a valid GT that just means it isn’t used on Xbox LIVE, but it could be used for Zune or GFWL

and No you cannot send friend requests accross all MS services nor will they show up

xbox friend requests or games for windows friend requests stay on their respected servers

zune accounts cannot receive friend requests as its not a social program

you will have to be more creative with your name

Gamertagchecker.com is misleading you.

Just because no one is using a gamertag in the Xbox LIVE system does not mean it is available.

Other Microsoft services issue gamertags, too.

Also, a gamertag could be inactive but still be spoken for.

when i try to send a friend request "invalid gamer tag" pops up. the person who i was trying to add got the same thing trying to add me. whats the problem?

It is not availible choose a different tag and don't bump threads from almost a year old thanks.
