Grinding noise

Getting same problem here. I could play a game but the noise was getting distracting. I noticed too when I would mess around with dashboard the noise would get louder too. Pretty disappointed! I did have a chance to hook my Directv to it and it worked great. I contacted support and got no real help after an hour of waiting. Got a number for repair service but I'm gonna take it back and try to exchange if no exchange available I'm gonna return it for my money back. I guess I'll have to wait to get next gen console. Not sure if I will get Xbox one now? PS4? Truly disappointed!

Same issue. A replacement console is supposed to be shipping out tomorrow. Hope to have it by Wednesday!

This is ridiculous!!! I've waited until late February to buy an Xbox One, hoping to avoid all the Day One issues on a $500 console... Unboxed my X1 today, went through all the setup steps, then put the FM5 disc in and all I get is a grinding/clicking noise, and it never recognizes a disc!!! Now I have to wait until my replacement arrives (while there is now a second $550+ "hold" on my account) to play the darned thing!!!! I am so frikkin angry right now. Gamestop won't take it back for a refund because I've opened the box (well, duh... how else would I know it doesn't work properly?!). If I could just get my frikkin money back, I would. I don't even want to deal with this stupid thing now... Grrrrrrrrrr

I'm suprised Gamestop wouldn't take it back. My SIL had his lock up about three days into owning it and it would not turn on or eject the game that was in it. Took it back to Gamestop and they replaced it and the game! Maybe different stores have different policies.

It is probably more difficult in the US compared to here in the UK but I strongly suggest you try and replace your consoles at the store you bought them from if at all possible. Record a video with your phone if your unit is making any unusual noises, I did that for an annoying humming sound that mine made and just off seeing the video the employee at my local GAME store was already off into the backroom to fetch me a new console. The XB1 is meant to be silent, unless you go sticking your ear on the console  you shouldn't hear a peep out of it from a couple of feet away.

If you do go for the direct advanced exchange, here is my advice to you. Firstly, when you unpackage the replacement, check straight away for any physical damage to the machine and check the MFR number on the sticker underneath, if it has a service number instead, it's refurbished and not brand new! Challenge Microsoft if that is the case, it's unacceptable! My console was barely a month old and I was sent refurbished units despite being promised brand new ones (not to mention despite being reconditioned they were still faulty!!?!?).

You should get your console within about 48 hours of processing your order, make sure you give yourself a few days to fully test it before sending your original back. One of my replacements worked great for about 3 hours, couldn't hear any noise from it, suddenly it began making an awful clicking sound which got louder and more frequent. Sounded like a broken fan to me.

Here is your problem though, Microsoft are not prepared for returning the return console. If you are not satisfied with your replacement, let customer support know you are sending it back and why you are sending it back. It can take around 2 weeks from Xbox receiving the replacement before they finally complete the advanced exchange. Your case will be escalated to a 'higher support' group who are a real pain in the *** to contact because all you can do is wait for them to email or call you, you have no means of getting in touch with them first. I waited about 10 days for an email, instantly emailed them back and haven't been emailed back by them, and it's been 10 days since right now. Awful.

Maybe I was very unlucky, but from my experience I would advise going straight to your retailer to try and replace your unit. Xbox support are very apologetic and do what they can to help, but at the end of the day their current system is abysmal and they clearly do not have the staff numbers in the higher support group to make things run quickly and smoothly. Once a case is escalate, the normal Xbox support you speak to on the phone or by web chat are useless, they no longer have any power to help you, it's a shame because I've had nothing but positive experiences with them.

Best of luck.
