12 month prepaid card redemption issue

It said there was an issue at first but then I got a confirmation email that it works. Its renewed now but the card works like it wasn't redeemed. What happened? Can it be mistaken for a stolen card and can I be banned? O.o

I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago when redeeming my Xbox live gold 12-month membership card. At first i was really puzzled and wanted to know why the code gave me an error message.

Normally when you enter the "25 character code" and you press "confirm" to active the code. It normally says that the code has been successfully redeemed.

Now for me it gave me an Error Message when redeeming the code. So i contacted Microsoft chat support and they said the code was already "activated" on my account recently. They then directed me to were i can find my Xbox live subscription. You can find it by clicking here.

Now look at the expires on: you can see that the Xbox live gold 12-month membership card was successfully activated. So why did it give me an error message instead of the code has been successfully redeemed. That`s the same question i asked Microsoft chat support.

They told me This is sometimes related to Xbox live service issues or an error in our system so if the code has been successfully redeemed you do not have anything to worry about because your not going to get suspended or banned for this, It`s normally related to an system error or an Xbox live service issue.
