XP Freezing after Standby?

I have windows XP and recently the computer will not recover properly from standby.  The desktop shows but freezes when you try to do anything.  The strange thing is that it is sporadic, sometimes OK and other times not.  Everything is up to date including drivers and the computer is clean.  There are no peripherals attached.  Any idea why?

Answer
 Hi,
1. Have you made any recent changes to the computer prior to this issue?
2. Do you have any security software installed on the computer?
3. Do you receive any error message after computer resumes from standby mode?

Method 1 This would usually happen due to outdated device drivers on the computer.
However, you have mentioned that you have updated all the drivers. I would suggest you to check the display manufacturer’s website for any latest updates.

Also, refer the below Microsoft article and try the steps mentioned.
Method 2: You may boot the computer to clean boot state and check the performance of the computer.

Note: After you used the clean boot to resolve your problem, follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.
You may also check the event viewer for any detailed event logs.
