How do I get My Pictures program back in Windows XP pro? I think I deleted or moved something somewhere

I was deleting some old files from the My Documents and I think My Pictures was also deleted. I don't care about the photos as I have the original, but I would like to get My Programs back to the start-up page.

I was deleting some old files from My Documents, and I think I deleted My Pictures from the start up menu. I found them earlier by doing a Start, search- Shell: My Pictures, but now they are gone, as is the My Pictures program from the start-up page

I was deleting some old files from My Documents when I deleted a file called My Pictures. When I went back to the start page, the My Pictures was gone from the list. There was My Documents, My Recent Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Computer and My Network Places. Now the "My Pictures" is gone from this list. I use it as the default location for scanning photos and uploading photos from my camera ! Help !

I can show you how to put the My Pictures back on the start menu, but if you deleted your pictures and they are not in the recycle bin they are gone.

right click on the start button and choose properties, click on customize, choose advanced tab, in the start menu items scroll down to MY Pictures, and choose display as link.

1. if your pictures are still on the pc somewhere and you have the name of one of the pictures, do a search.

go to start, search, choose all files and folders when the search assistant comes up, under advanced options ensure that all hidden files and folders are checked.

forgot, first go to my computer, click on tools on top and choose folder options, on the view tab check Show hidden files, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types, and uncheck Hide protected system operating files.  (reverse when done searching)

in search, type the name of one of your pics, look in Local disk C: and when it comes up, If it does, then right click and choose open containing folder.

Is your picture there?

another place you can look is the screensaver settings under display properties, windows will put as screensaver any picture placed in the My Pictures folder. But if your pictures are gone, they might not be here either.

Hi Marlene,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community and giving us an opportunity to assist you.

It looks like you have deleted the “My Pictures” folder and wanted to restore it back.

Let’s follow these steps and check if that does the trick:

Open start menu, in the search bar type regedit and press enter. This wil open the registry editor.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User

Shell Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell

Folders

In Shell Folders set the value data of My Pictures to the address "C:\Documents and Settings\....\My Documents\My Pictures"

In The user shell folders leave the value of “My Pictures” blank.
