Windows Live Essentials 2011 install error 0x80040705

When I try to install Windows Live Essentials 2011, I'm getting error 0x80040705.

The source says the problem is with the file D3DX10_42.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.  I tried:

  • removing all old Windows Live versions and reinstalling Essentials 2011
  • downloading a new copy of the file and replacing it in both System32 and SysWOW64
  • installing the DirectX June 2010 update
  • installing the full version of Live Essentials 2011 instead of the web version
...but I get the same error every time I try to install.

Anybody have any ideas?

Answer

Hello all,

The best and 100% working solution for all setup and installation problems, is related to Windows Installer database. Because it store such information about the temp location of the install packages but it never update itself on second installation attempts or somehow got conflicted about it causes such errors like:

- The path to the installation package is not found.
- Windows cannot find the specific file.
- Installation failed (Unknown Error)

The Solution:

Download this utility: Windows Installer Clean Up <Removed>  it's a free version, install it and then run it, look at the list of the programs and select the program that you are trying to install (in our case here select all what begins with: Windows Live  and also select Microsoft Silverlight and you can multi select using Ctrl key) and press Clean. It will take about 5 ~ 10 minutes to clear all the stored info in the Windows Installer database, after it finishes you can close the tool, run the setup again and throw me a big "Thank You" !! :-)
