Windows update error code 80240016 failed to update

Hi, 
Ive recently noticed i have been having problems installing anything new from microsoft.  Last week i tried to download internet explorer 8, but it kept saying the link was broken.  I then tried downloading other things off the microsoft website and i got the same message.  Now the windows updater has tried to install the service pack 1 and it says, failed to update with the error code 80240016 - saying it is currently installing other updates.  I believe the problem is that the computer cant seem to download anything from microsoft, any help about this would be appreciated.

Since you are not getting the option to run as admin from normal mode, I would suggest you follow the step in the link in safe mode. For troubleshooting purpose, also try and create another admin account and see if you can run program as admin from normal mode.

 

How to boot to SAFE MODE

  1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
  2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
  3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
  4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
  5. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
  6. You should see drivers loading, and then Please wait.
  7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.

Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
