Clean Install - browser windows keep opening to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=219472&clcid=0x409

I just did an installation of windows 8 to a fresh hard drive. Intermittently, a browser window will opening to the following URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=219472&clcid=0x409. This quickly redirects to bing.com. This seems to happen randomly every few minutes or so. If I didn't know better, I would think that I had a virus or something, but that seems highly unlikely considering all I did was install windows 8 to a empty hard drive. Has anyone else had this problem? I am thinking about going back to windows 7, because the browser window opening up is pulling me out of whatever I was doing.

Answer

Remove Bing from your Search Providers in IE/ Tools/ Manage Add-ons/ Search Providers.  You must have some Search Provider, so try Google.

See what is listed in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, and remove anything to do with Bing.

Have a look at the APPS page on the  Metro Start screen and right click on Bing and select Unistall to remove the Bing App.
