The Sims 2 Expansion Install Error: ts2upd.exe has stopped working

I have a windows 8. I am able to install The Sims 2 and it runs fairly well under Windows XP compatability. When I try to install an expansion, it requests the forth disk to the Sims 2 in order to update. The update crashes with this error: ts2upd.exe has stopped working. I understand that Windows 8 is not compatible, but I have seen other people manage to get the game to run. How can I skip the update or manually add the update?

Hi,

- Is the issue confined to this game?

Try to install the expansion in compatibility mode and check if this helps.

1. Uninstall the program if it's already installed. Then when you install/reinstall it instead of double clicking on the install file, right click it and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility".

2. Then click "Troubleshoot Program".

3. In the next window click an option that best describes the situation and click next to continue.

4. Check if the application works fine.

Reply with the status of the issue and we will be glad to offer our assistance.

Hi,

The Sims 2 is also compatible with Windows 7. Click here to know more: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Type=Software&Name=The+Sims+2&ModelOrVersion=1&Vendor=EA&Locale=1033%2C2057%2C3081%2C4105%2C16393&LastSearchTerm=sims%2B2&BreadcrumbPath=sims+2&TempOsid=Windows+7

On the Windows 8 computer, you may install the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode and check the status.

Thank you.

Hi,

Follow these steps to install the game in compatibility mode.

-          Locate the game setup files and right-click on the “Setup.exe” file to select “Properties”.

-          Click the “Advanced” tab and click on “compatibility”. You need to select “Windows 7” and proceed with the installation to check if this helps.

hey;

I opened the disk to view the files, but no file called setup.exe could be found. I did set the autorun application to run in compatibility instead, and tried installing.

unfortunately it gave me the same error, asking me to insert the sims 2 disk 4 to continue, crashing and then giving me the same error box. "the sims 2 university did not update successfully and the installation will now terminate.' and it uninstalls the game.

is there any way to bypass the updater?

cheers

Hi,

You need to make a new folder on the desktop. Once this is done copy all the contents of the disc and paste it in the new folder. Once this is done check for the installation or setup files in the new folder.

Thank you.

I'm having the same exact issue. I'm trying to install the expansion The Sims 2 University, and, I get the same exact error that Fish is having when it tries to update. I already have the initial installation of the Sims 2 working in compatibility mode XP Service Pack 3. But, the expansions WILL NOT install properly without that updater running and giving the error. I've tried all the steps mentioned above, and nothing has worked.

Hi,

-          When you say “the expansions WILL NOT install properly without that updater running and giving the error”, what is the error message you get?

Follow these steps to install the game in compatibility mode.

-          Locate the game setup files and right-click on the “Setup.exe” file to select “Properties”.

-          Click the “Advanced” tab and click on “compatibility”. You need to select “Windows 7” and proceed with the installation to check if this helps.

I've been having this issue and the only way I've been able to solve this (found this out accidentally whilst throwing a strop at the computer during University installation) is to just restart the computer when it asks you to insert Disc 4. This way it doesn't need to update and doesn't terminate installation.

I'm in the process of installing all my EPs and has so far also worked for Nightlife, Open For Business and Pets.

Hope this works for others!
