When you were first given help, did you happen to mention your Operating System, Edition of the Operating System, Service Pack level of Operating System and Architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) of said Operating System to assist them in helping you resolve your issue?

What about the update being installed?  If you look it up - what is the KB###### associated with the update to be installed?

What about AntiVirus software - what Antivirus software is installed now and what other antivirus software has ever been installed (even for a trial)?

What did Microsoft "help" you do?

Hi Jamesareone,

What Version of Windows are you running on your computer?

In addition to Shenan Stanley suggestions, I would suggest you to try the following steps:

Step 1: Check Windows Update history for any pending update

1.   Click Start button > type in Windows Update In the search box and press enter

2.   Click on  View Update History on the left pane

3.   Check for any pending updates or unsuccessful updates

4.   Starting from the most recent dates, find an update for Windows that has failed to install, and then double-click the update to view more information.

5.   Updates that have failed to install will display Failed under the Status column.

Make a note of the update Knowledge Base (KB) number and the error message and let me know

Step 2:
Run the fixit available in the link below to reset windows update components.

Step 3: Now, you may try to install those unsuccessful windows updates manually from the Download center link below

Try this

1. Turn your computer off

2. Power on your computer and at the same time, keep tapping on F8 a few times

2. You will see Windows Advanced Options. Use the error key on your keyboard to go down to Safe Mode

3. Wait until it is done, then choose the option to Shut Down. You will see the same message come out on the screen.

4. Once it's done, power on your computer as how you normally do.

Let me know if the problem still persist.

Well that isn't the case wit my PC, I only have one failure but was successfully installed later, so I have not any update pending, but still have the problem every time I turn off my PC...

Because this annoyed me, I have checked before turn off the machine if I have update pending at that time and what I have noticed is that even having anything to update the machine do the same thing over and over...
