Can't resize Windows 7 page file

original title: Can't resize Win7 pagefile
I'm using Win7Home Premium with 4 GB RAM, and I tried to resize the pagefile , which is currently system-managed.
The current pagefile size takes around 4 GB in drive C:.
I changed it to a fixed size of 1024 MB (both for min & max size),  set it & rebooted.
Now, it shows "The total paging file size for all drive is 1024MB", but  upon checking with Windows Explorer, the pagefile.sys is still  persistently 4GB.    It seems Win7 doesn't recreate or reduce the filesize as expected.  How come ?

Answer
But I also see there is another key called ExistingPageFile with a strange value  "  \??\C:\pagefile.sys"
Is this normal ?
Should I edit this value & change it to C:\pagefile.sys ?

That entry is normal. The pair of entries appear on my computer and will be replicated in Control Set 001 and Control set 002 on your computer.

That leaves the question as to why it is not visible. Research using Google only came up with a slightly different unresolved problem where the user had two visible pagefiles and could not delete the corrupted one. An MS MVP who I know and respect suggested the answer might be a corrupted MFT in which case the solution was a clean install of the operatiing system,

Does the pagefile appear to be functioning properly?
