Suddenly, the folder trees on the left on 'save as'/'open' dialogs are missing..

Hello all,

Today I discovered that my folder trees suddenly disappeared. What I'm referring to is this:

(For example,)

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. Go File --> Save As
  3. I will not be able to see the folder tree there.
I have tried it for a few programs (Microsoft Word, Editpad, Chrome, etc.) but all of them show the same problem. I have no idea what the trigger is either |:

I googled a bit but many of the results were relevant to Windows XP so I don't think they will work. Definitely hoping for some help here ((:

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Thanks!

  1. Run command prompt as administrator.
  2. Type 'sfc /scannow' (without quotes)
  3. Wait for it to finish
  4. Restart your computer
  5. Problem solved!
