igdkmd64.sys BSOD Windows 8.1 in Game - Please help

Hi all,

I have been experiencing issues ever since I updated to 8.1 on my Asus laptop.  Every time I try to play a game it causes a BSOD.  OR rather not every time, just 90% of the time.

I have posted about it on MS forums, Intel Forums (as I believe it to be a driver issue) and some random tech forums, but with no luck in finding an answer.

As stated I had the issue with my Asus laptop with 8.1.  Before 8.1 I had no issues, same games, same hardware.

I have now purchased a surface 2 pro and am experiencing the same BSOD, same error and same file listed as the issue: igdkmd64.sys

I posted here as I came across this post: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-system/windows-81-driver-irql-not-less-or-equal/341e6c39-f248-494c-be05-62f27499db0d

Where Patrick banner at least seemed to trying to find a cause for it.

I know I am not alone in looking for a fix as there are thousands of results for 8.1 BSOD igdkmd64.sys on Google.

So please help, it's driving me insane.

I have uploaded my dmp files here: http://sdrv.ms/1fAeE75

Things I have tried is updating with latest drivers via Windows update.  Forcing a manual GFX driver update via the intel drivers.

Nothing seems to work and using the intel drivers is temporary as after a reboot, Windows reverts back to previous driver version, which I think is standard with Surface Pro ?

Hi,

1. Which game are you referring to?

2. What is the complete model number of the display adapter/laptop?

3. Is the issue specific to this game?

igdkmd64 sys is the Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.

The error can also occur due to the file igdkmd 64 getting corrupted.

The Intel® Driver Update Utility keeps your system up-to-date. It detects which driver updates
are relevant to your computer, and then helps you install them quickly and easily.

I would suggest you to install the graphics driver in compatibility mode and check if it resolves the issue.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

a) Download the graphics driver from the manufacturer’s website.

b) Right-click on the driver and click on ‘properties’.

c) Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down.

d) Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries/issues related to Windows, write to us and we will be glad to assist you further.

Hi Mahesh thanks for the reply.

1 - Supreme Commander Forged Alliance ( But it isnt game specific as there are lots of people with the same issue, but with different games.
2 - I believe it's the  Intel HD Graphics 4400 but was the same on my Asus with an Intel 4000
3 - I dont think it is as others have the same issue on different games, SCFA is all I play.

I cant run the Intel Driver Update Utility as the surface seems to run customised drivers.  When I use the intel ones, Windows reverts back to the ones from Windows updates after each reboot.

Hi,

Thank you for replying.

Check if the issue persists in Clean Boot.
To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Refer to the link:

Note: Refer the section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"
to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Thanks.
