Update KB4089848 will not complete install on Surface

I am having trouble completing another update download on my x-64 based Surface Book with Windows 10. The previous update took a lot of special effort but 2018-3 KB4088785 did install and complete on restart. On ~3/21/18 I attempted to install a later update: Windows 10 update 2018-3 KB4089848. I was able to download and it did install, but on restart the update still says it is awaiting a restart. I continued to check for updates every day for the next 3 days and the Surface Book says there are no updates to install and the device is up to date. I have run the Windows update Troubleshooter and that software says that it could not detect a problem.

Are you able to uninstall KB4089848 at this point? If yes, make sure you have already downloaded the update from the catalog. Disconnect from the Internet. Uninstall the KB, restart twice. Then run the downloaded MSU from the catalog and restart twice again. Verify it is installed. Connect to the Internet.

Sorry for all the pain.. I know how frustrating this is.

Glad it is "fixed" and sorry again for the pain. Hopefully when you install the coming major feature update to 1803 which is in the final stages of testing by Insiders and Microsoft things will go smoothly.
