I created a document in Files in Teams, and now cannot delete it.

This is a brand new team and there are only two people in it and neither of them are online today.

I created several help files for the team and needed to delete the one named Test, and cannot.

From inside Teams ...

So I went to the SharePoint site to see if I could get into properties or something to unlock it

Tried to delete it from SharePoint and received a message that it is checked out?

There are no other users. It is not open on my machine anywhere, and was created directly in Teams using the New option, and entered information directly in the Word Application in the Teams environment.

I though maybe I could check it out and check it back in to fix it however, the only option I have is to check it out, which is an operation that fails.

I just want to delete this test file, and I cannot figure out how to do it.  Help?

Hi Smith,

In some cases, if a document was opened by a client program, Windows SharePoint Services puts a write lock on the document on the server. It needs to take some while to let the write lock time out. Users cannot make changes to the document during the time when the document id locked. So please try waiting until the file is unlocked to see the if it exhibits same behavior.

It you already tired the above , please try the followings to see if the file can be deleted:

A.  Go the Document Library on the SharePoint site, click gear button on the upper-right corner>Library Settings>Manage files which have no checked in version, check if the file appears there and click Take Ownership of Selection if yes.

B.  Sign out of your Office 365 account from all browsers windows,  and then clear browser caches and cookies.

C.  In the document library, click three dots next to the document>Click Version history. Try to restore an earlier version if possible, then check if you can delete it.

If it exhibits same behavior, we'd like to confirm some information for troubleshooting:

1.  Did you sync the SharePoint library files to your local drive?

2.  Does this happen to other documents? You can try to create a new test document to see if the same behavior happens.

3.  Within the document library, check the document and click the Information icon on the upper-right corner to open the details pane, check the recent activity to see if there is someone that possibly is editing/opening the file.

Regards,

Joanne
