List of Outlook for Mac Add-ins?

I am migrating from Outlook for Windows to Outlook for Mac, and am looking for add-ins (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins, whatever name they might go by) that will add to the functionality of the program.

There are TONS of add-ins that work with Windows.  Does anyone know of any lists of add-ins -- or even just names of single add-ins?  Thanks!

2. File message in most likely folder, or choose from likely folders as well as those matching typed-in characters (like SimplyFile)

Currently there is no support for plug-ins in Outlook for Mac", and AFAIK there has been no indication that Microsoft will add this support option.

There are ways to add functionality to Outlook via AppleScript. Currently scripts are very limited in Outlook where Entourage had an extensive library of free scripts. You can download scripts from these links:

The previous script in Entourage that did this is broken in Outlook at this time. I don't have an option to suggest. Maybe we'll hear from another user that has discovered a way to do this.

Outlook has no function to archive to OST or PST. You can drag a folder to the Desktop to save as .mbox file. This saves the data but to use you have to import back into Outlook. The pros on this format is it's generic and most email clients will import. It's even cross platform.

You might like these scripts to move messages but the Move icon in the ribbon might be all you need.
  • File in Sub-Folder v:1.0 [2010-10-22] Takes the currently selected messages, creates a sub-folder using a name that you choose, then moves the messages into the sub-folder.
  • File Messages by Year v:1.0 [2010-10-14] Takes the currently selected messages, creates a sub-folder using a name that you choose, then moves the messages into the sub-folder.
There are third party applications like Eaglefiler and DevonThink Pro that archive messages. If you have FileMaker Pro, you might like this app: Mail to FileMaker Importer

3. Bayesian spam filter (like SpamBayes)

Exchange is stored as cached files. Messages are stored by size not folder or account. Just drill down in the messages folder in Data Records in your Identity.

 ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/your identity/Data Records/Messages

You do not have to use "On My Computer" folders with Exchange. However to store messages off the server to view, this is the only option at this time. It's best to keep all messages on the server if possible to avoid data loss.

Outlook Mac does not have OST files.
Outlook Mac can only import from PST.

Exchange Basics

The Inbox syncs more frequently than any other and should be kept as clean as possible. (this is the number one cause of problems with sync). Do NOT make subfolders under the Inbox.

Any folder with more than a few thousand messages is going to take some time to fully come down when you first sync your account. Due to the design of Outlook's sync engine (and how exchange works), you will see the 512 newest messages in a folder at the initial start of sync then the rest of the folder's contents will be back filled before you see any mail that arrives after this point. This is why it will look like you are not getting new mail when a folder is still going through initial sync. This is also further exacerbated by an Exchange issue where it gets unnecessary change events before the newer mail arrives. If you carefully watch the progress during the sync of a folder with greater than a couple thousand messages, you will see "Updating local..." a lot before the newer mail starts arriving (newer than the initial 512 that come down).

Outlook checks the server for updates every minute, any folder that has updates will subsequently be synced. Since Outlook has a limit on how many folders can be synced at a time, there can be a queue of folders waiting. The Inbox does get high priority so it will generally sync before other folders that also need to sync.
