Greetings, Fon462. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Let's see what we can do to get this sorted out.

To start, can you tell me a little bit about where you saw this offer? If you can link me to any materials you may have seen I can do some research into it and hopefully shed light on the situation. Thank you in advance!

This was an offer from Microsoft back when they increased the prices.  If you signed up for auto renewal you were locked in at a $39.99 price.  The website on xbox.com that had that offer no longer exists.  I believe this was in 2020.

I remember when those deals were available and that is the correct price. The price of gold changed on November 1, 2010. The "lock in" promotion would give you a discount on a one year renewal at that time, but the renewal price would change to the regular price after that 1st year.

I thought it was for as long as you kept the auto renewal.   :(  Thanks though for your help.

Sorry, but yeah, anytime you purchase a promotion like that the price is only offered for the first part of your subscription. After that it will renew at the regular price.
