How to Find the SSID

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. From the menu on the left, click on Wireless.
  6. Next click on Basic, in the submenu beneath Wireless.
  7. The network name will be listed next to SSID.

 

 

How To Find Wireless Passphrase (WPA/WEP)

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. From the menu on the left, click on Wireless.
  6. Next click on Security from the submenu.
  7. The Wireless Passphrase will be displayed where it says WPA Pre-Shared Key. You may need to click the "Click here to display" link.
  8. You can set a new passphrase by typing the desired passphrase in the box.
  9. Click Apply

 

 

Changing the Wireless Security Type/Disabling the Wireless Password

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. From the menu on the left, click on Wireless.
  6. Next click on Security from the submenu.
  7. To change the Security type, select Shared WPA or WPA2.  If no wireless security is desired select Open.
  8. Click Apply

 

 

MAC Filtering

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser.
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. From the menu on the left, click on Wireless.
  6. Next click on MAC Filter from the submenu.
  7. Set MAC Restrict Mode to Disable.
  8. Click Apply.

 

 

Changing the Wireless Channel

 

 ***Depending on ISP, this option may not be available or disabled.***

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. Select Wireless.
  6. Select Basic.
  7. From the Country drop down menu labeled Channel ID select the desired Channel. (Channels 1,3,9,11)

 

 

Changing Wireless Mode

 

The wireless mode can not be changed on this device.

 

 

Change Wireless Band (width)

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Wireless LAN.
  5. Select Advanced Setup.
  6. Next to the the Bandwidth option select the dropdown menu and select the “20MHz in Both Bands”.
  7. Select the Save/Apply button.

 

 

DHCP Reservation

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select LAN.
  6. Click the Add Entries button.
  7. Type the consoles MAC address and desired IP address.
  8. Select the Save/Apply button.


UPnP

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select LAN.
  6. Check or un-check the option for UPnP.
  7. Click the Save button.

 

 

DMZ

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select NAT.
  6. Select DMZ Host.
  7. Enter the IP address of the console.
  8. Click Save/Apply.

 

Disable DMZ

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select NAT.
  6. Select DMZ Host.
  7. Clear the IP Address from the DMZ Host IP Address field.
  8. Click Save/Apply.

 

 

Port Forwarding

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select NAT.
  6. Select Virtual Servers.
  7. Click the Add button.
  8. Enter a custom Server name. For an example: "XBL" or "Xbox Live".
  9. Enter the IP address of the console into the Server IP Address.
  10. In the four columns asking for the port number enter 3074.
  11. Set Protocol to both.
  12. Click the Save/Apply button.

 

Disable Port Forwarding

 

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select NAT.
  6. Select Virtual Servers.
  7. Check the box under the remove column that is next to the Xbox Live entry.
  8. Click the Remove button.

 

 

Firewall

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup.
  5. Select WAN.
  6. Select Add.
  7. Un-Check Enable Firewall.
  8. Be sure the PPP Username and PPP Password are still in place.
  9. Click the Next button.
  10. On the following Summary screen Click the Save button.

 

 

How to Find Firmware version

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1  into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. Login using “User” as the username and “1234” as the password.
  5. The firmware version is listed as Software Version on the following page.

 

 

Firmware Update

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Navigate to www.zyxel.com.
  4. Find the Firmware specific to your device in their support pages.
  5. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1  into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  6. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  7. Select Management.
  8. Select Update Software.
  9. Click the browse button.
  10. Select the Firmware file you downloaded.
  11. Click the Update Software button.
  12. Wait for the device to restart.

 

Restore Factory Defaults

 

Through Hardware.

 

  1. Locate the Reset button.
  2. Using the tip of a ballpoint pen or toothpick press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds or until the SYS led begins to blink.
  3. Release the reset button.
  4. Wait for the device to restart.

 

Through Firmware

 

  1. Plug the computer into a LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  4. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  5. Select Management.
  6. Select Settings.
  7. Select Restore Default.
  8. Click the Restore Default Settings button.
  9. Wait for the device to reset and restart.

 

 

Bridging Guide

 

*Bridge mode should only be used if you have a router to plug into the device.*

*Please have PPPoE information available if needed to enter into the router (contact ISP if needed to get this information)*

 

  1. Connect your computer directly to the Zyxel with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Put http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar at the top.  When prompted for login information enter the username "admin" and the password "1234".
  4. Once logged in click on "Advanced Setup" in the left-hand column.
  5. Select WAN from the submenu.
  6. Click the Edit button on the right hand side of that page.
  7. Click next until you get to the Connection Type page.  On this page select Bridging.
  8. Click next leaving all other settings on the defaults until you are given the option to save. Click Save.
  9. Wait for the device to restart then powercycle both the Zyxel and the router.

 

 

Known Issues

 

Frontier may have custom firmware for this device.

Certain firmware versions have been known to have issues that result in "Live Connection Error" and "MTU".  Try disabling UPnP and enabling Port Forwarding for port 3074.

 

******If the above doesn't work*******

 

Try assigning the Gateway a DHCP range up to 192.168.254.100 and assign the Xbox an IP address outside of that range manually, i.e. 192.168.254.150

 

To assign a DHCP range of 192.168.254.100-192.168.254.150 follow the following steps.

 

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Log into the router by entering the default gateway, http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.254.254 into the address bar of the internet browser. 
  3. The router will then prompt you to enter the username and password. There is no username and the default password is 1234, unless you are a Frontier customer in which case the login information is username “user” and password “admin”.
  4. Select Advanced Setup from the menu on the left.
  5. Select LAN from the submenu.
  6. Set the last set of numbers in Start IP Address to 100.
  7. Set the last set of numbers in End IP Address to 150.
  8. Click the Save/Reboot button at the bottom.

 

 

Multiple Console Support

 

We have confirmed that this network device is unable to support more than one console with an Open NAT.
