XBOX One is INCOMPATIBLE with TIME WARNER CABLE!?

Hi,

I was having troubles getting my Motorola DCT6416 to connect to the XBox One, which doesn't seem to recognize the signal coming from the box.  I chatted with a service rep about the issue, in order to find out if there was another box they could offer me.  According to her, the XB1 is incompatible with all Time Warner hardware.  Can this be true?  Are there any other TWC customers who are having success connecting an HD box to their XB1's?  If so, could you tell me what box you are using?  Here is the chat log:

Hello, Mark!

Sophie>

Thank you for being our valuable customer. How may I assist you?

MARK_>

Hi. I am a cable subscriber, and I have a Motorola DCT6416 III HD box with a DVR. However, I just purchased an XBox One, and would like to run the box through the console, but it appears the two are incompatible. Are there any other HD cable box/DVR combo units that TWC can offer me that may not have this issue?

Sophie>

Mark, I am afraid it is not possible to tune XBox One with our equipment.

Sophie>

I was checking the details on this issue, as of now it is not possible.

MARK_>

How can that be? There are options for TW Cable right in the menus, and people from all over the world are using both the box and your cable services.

MARK_>

It doesn't seem to be effecting everyone.

MARK_>

It's just this particular cable box.

Sophie>

Mark, you can watch TV using the TWC TV app.

MARK_>

Ok, forget the part about the Xbox. My question is this: Are there any other hardware options from TWC that will offer me a HD box/DVR combo, or am I stuck with this DCT6716?

Sophie>

But Xbox One is not compatible with our services.

Sophie>

There will be some error.

MARK_>

I am not asking about the error. I am asking about hardware options aside from this old HD box that I"ve had for 4 years. Are there any updated boxes available?

Sophie>

Mark, there are updated box too.

Sophie>

It depends on the availability. you can visit the cable store and swap your current box with them.

MARK_>

Ok. I would like to attain one. If I can't make one work through my XB1, I'd at least want a box that works better than this one, which is slow.

MARK_>

Please send a link to the store you mentioned.

Sophie>

Mark, I can provide you with it's address.

Ok, for anyone else reading this forum, I have solved this problem, at least for my set-top box.  Hopefully this will work for you too.

The dipsh*t CS rep in the chat above is simply ignorant to this fix, and it seems she is just telling everyone it won't work so that she doesn't have to deal with the issue.  It turns out that yes, you can get MANY of the TWC STBs to work with the XB1 (I don't know about ALL):

Find how to get into the settings menu of the box, and change your output from 1080p to 720p.  This alone didn't work for me, and through simply messing with it I found that I also had to set a parameter to limit output to 480p in 4:3 aspect ratio (which is fine, because I don't use that ratio).  Not sure why, but for whatever reason, when I set it this way, it works fine now.  No more DVI error.

Hope that helps.

I use Time Warner here in Brooklyn NY and didn't have really any problems with setting up my cable box.  I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8600HD cable box.  I did experience the a problem last night while changing the channel via voice command the Xbox said the link between the cable box was lost. I asked it to change the channel again and it connected back again.  My cable box is a few years old and I believe they don't use this model any more.

TWC customer here with a Cisco box. Mine works without issue, except the XB1 will not power off my TV. And I can't control the TWC DVR options via the XB1. Not a big deal.

I have an issue where MS has the old channels on file prior to TWC big switch over. So for instance, if I tell it to go to AMC, it'll go to channel 1078 which was AMC last month, but now it's channel 105 or something, so because there is no longer a channel 1078, it jumps to channel 1200. I hope that TWC gives MS their new carrier data or all of NYS is going to not be able to use voice commands!

I have a Samsung box from Time Warner, to get it to work enter "Time Warner Cable" when it asks you which type of box it is, then select "Time Warner" and it worked perfect for me.
