As principal Lloyd has already stated, the Xbox One IS NOT backwards compatible. To be more specific, I believe Microsoft needed to work with a more advanced architecture to make a more advanced console. If I'm not mistaken, the Xbox 360 was formed around
a PPC architecture, where as the Xbox One is formed around a x86 architecture. This change in architecture is probably what causes the lack of backwards compatibility.
