Xbox Live Gameplay is EXTREMELY laggy

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this/ask for help. Point me in the right direction if so.

My XBL play has been extremely laggy to the point that it is unplayable. Some days it'll be perfectly fine, but I'd say 1/2 the time I play I am lagging everywhere and I have to stop playing because of it. I can't even play with my friends anymore because it's too embarrassing if I am lagging and drag the team down. I direct connected to my router for years with no problem and 3 months ago I switched to a wireless connection and bought a wireless adapter. For the first 2 months I pretty much had no problems. Then all the sudden this all started. So far, I've reset my router and cleared my hard drive's cache. It even lags when no one is on any of my houses' computers. What's the next step? Could it be the Xbox, which is about 2 years old?

Sounds like it's the wireless router.  Try connecting via ethernet again and see if you have the same problems.  If you don't talk to your isp about the steps needed for wireless.

It is your wireless router, and also the like wireless you plug into your console to receive wireless is not the greatest either. So, directly plugging it into the router is the best and fastest way.
