XBox 360 Multiplayer

Hello

Please bear with me if this is a stupid question as I am a complete novice to the XBox 360, my 10-year-old son got his XBox this week to play Minecraft and I have, so far, managed to set it up and buy him his XBox Live Gold membership so he can play online with his friends.

I have also worked out how to make the game multiscreen to add in a second player so his sister can play along.  BUT, when she tries to add herself to the game, it won't let her.

Does this mean that in order to play multiplayer she needs an XBox Live Gold account as well????

Please reply in words of one syllable because as I say i am a complete gaming novice, thank you!!

But if you dont want to play online there is an offline mode which if you have your HDMI mode set on your tv and your xbox then you can play split screen on the same xbox.
