X-Box Scratched my CoD-MW2 Disc

Today while playing CoD-MW2 my xbox dvd drive started to make a strange noise so i restarted me xbox, thinking something was wrong.

After the xbox restarted i heard a scraping noise and after i (a bit scared i might add) ejected the disc it turned out to have a scratch about 1mm wide on it.

Note: i did not manipulate the xbox whatsoever and its setup on a stable surface (the floor).

Is this a common issue?, im reluctant to send my xbox in for repair since i dont have warranty anymore and dont want to pay 99$

It can happen when the disc is not sat correctly in the tray and when the xbox in nudged while running a game.
But you did not do that so that is not the cause.

Does your game still play?, if it does it might be an idea to install it to the HDD. You still need the disc in to boot up but after that it will read it from the consoles memory.

If you have a hard drive attached to your arcade console you can always just borrow a copy of MW2 from a friend or even rent one to install it to the hard drive, then you can use your disc from there for playing the game. (the game disc would still need to be in the disc drive to verify that you own a copy of the game).

However, since this happened once it may happen again so your best bet would be to contact support and set up a repair. If it is out of warranty it will cost you around $100 to have it replaced.
