turn it off

To assist your aim and if everyone has it they are equal and if don't like it turn it off.

Aim assist is present in console shooters to make up for the inaccuracy of the analog sticks.

Because analog sticks suck.

This. Black Ops is one of the few games that actually allows you to turn it off, do so if it makes you feel better.

Mainly because sticks just cant do what the mouse does.

because they cater to scrubs?

It may be because analog sticks aren't as accurate as a mouse but I still think they should do away with it completely.

If they got rid of it, shooters would go from the most played games on consoles to the least.  Bad players would stop playing because now they have no chance against good players, and good players would be mad because now there are no "scrubs" to dominate.

I default aim assist on my Xbox it hurts more than it helps for me no matter what game it is.
