What To Do If Your Game Won't Play

Heyo! In this thread we discuss games, games, and games. There are so many helpful Support articles for Xbox One that explain the steps really well, so this is more a collection of links than anything. Take the time to look at the links which apply to your situation before posting. That way when we dig deeper into the issue, we already know that the simple stuff has been tested out. 

Install your Games

Regardless what format your game is in (disc based or downloaded from the Marketplace), they need to be installed for you to play. Click through for his handy dandy guide on installing games to Xbox One!

My Disc Won't Load

If you have a game disc in the console and you're unable to load and play it, check out the steps here to clean the disc, and try others
If you conclude that the disc is the issue, and not the console, look into obtaining a replacement disc

NOTE: Xbox 360 game discs are not compatible with Xbox One. If an Xbox 360 disc is inserted, you will be prompted with a "Cannot read disc" error.

Error: "Insert Disc or Purchase Digital Copy"

If you see this error and you own the game on disc, make sure the disc is in the drive. If you don't have it on disc, check out the additional solutions.

Problems Downloading a Game

If you're getting frustrated with a download, head on over to 06 - Purchasing, Downloading, & Redeeming on Xbox One for the best troubleshooting steps and assistance.

If you have non-technical questions about a game, like how to beat a certain boss or get past a tough puzzle, head on over to our Xbox One Games forums for tips and help from the community. 

If you're still unable to play the game due to a technical issue, start a new thread with the following info:

  • What game are you trying to play?
  • Is it disc-based, or digital?
  • Please describe what happens when you try to play. Include error messages & codes, and as many non-personal details as possible.
  • What have you tried to fix this so far? Please be specific. Saying you've tried everything doesn't leave us too many options!
