Using a portable HDD

I have a big portable HDD and a small xbox HDD. If i used that portable one on my xbox, but it has things on it, will it kill the files already on it? I have files on the portable HDD and want to make it work on the xbox so i can DL all my rock band songs and such onto it. Could I have both the files from the computer and the rock band songs on the hardrive without it like crashing or something?

The portable HDD will not work on/with your XBox, you must use a Official Xbox HDD.

If you need additional memory space, I suggest:

www.xbox.com/.../Storage

The small print at the bottom of the page that I linked for you mentions:

"USB flash drive is not a hard drive."

Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto an external hard drive.

It would be a waste of space external devices are restricted to 16 gigs each and a 500gig hd is expensive and slow compared to a xbox hd or a USB drive

Internal drives on xbox use sata

USB HDs are limited by the controller
