Updated games won't play

I just came home from school and thought I'd pop in some Dead Island to play. My cousin had just borrowed it and gave it back. I put it in, it's running, asks me to download something for the update. I'm like "yeah sure". After the update is downloaded, it says it can't read the disc. It says the disc is scratched (it isn't. It worked for my cousin and he put it immediately back in the case when he was done and I can see it isn't scratched). So I'm like "whatever, screw you Dead Island). Then I put in Skyrim, I download an update (I don't have xbox live at school so I get all updates at home) and boom! Skyrim freezes. Whatever, I just turn off the console, turn it back on, and play. I'm all done playing, so I save it, turn it off. A few hours later, I go back, turn on the Xbox to play some Skyrim, and it says that there is an error and I have to redownload the game. I never did download it, I'm playing off of the disc. Due to both problems happening after downloading an update, I'm assuming that it is the same problem. Can someone please help me in fixing this?

The freezing is whatever. To the original post, while I have not tried it yet (but I will), does that work for updated games? I haven't bought any DLC or anything for these two games. Just straight disc playing.

Is there a way to do it without deleting the memory? I put a good chunk of my life into Skyrim.

As for Deleting your save files, You could Back them up to a USB pen drive or HD, then you will have a copy of them even if they do get accidentally deleted. But, Please be aware that any drive you use will need to be formatted before it can be used with the console, meaning all data on that drive will have to be moved to a PC or somewhere.

Id also try clearing The cache on the Xbox and then re-download the updates for the games and see if that helps.

-

To clear the cache :

-

Go to the Settings tab on the far right of the dashboard, and choose "system settings".

Now choose "Storage".

highlight the device to clear the cache on and press the "Y" button.

Now confirm you would like to do storage device maintenace.

-

This will remove all update data for games and apps, meaning you will have to re-download them. give it a shot, it often helps.
