Unrecognized Discs

My Xbox 360 S was working fine up until yesterday. I turned the console on to play a game, but the xbox did not recognize the disc.  I cleaned the disc, and tried again, but it still said "unrecognized disc".  I tried a different game, and I got the same message.  The status code given is 03-57-00, but when I tried to look that up on the Xbox support website, there were no resualts.  I have been playing the same games I tried for as long as I have had the system with no problems until now.  What is the problem, and is there anything I can do to fix it, or will I need to send it in for repairs?

It could be your laser reader, which would be an internal problem. Too save money, you can buy a warranty for the Xbox console (if you do not already have one) and have it swapped at your local game store for a refurbished or 2nd hand one. Or you could send it off, but in my experience that would cost more money.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

Ryan M (DarkLink 900)

Thanks for your feedback.

There are a few solutions you can try first before you go down the repair route.

1. Try a different game to see if it works.

2. Clear your cache, you can do this by:

Settings ---> System Settings,

Then go into Storage or Memory

Highlight your storage device and press Y

Select Clear System Cache

Now try the game.

3. Remove the hard drive and try playing the game.

If none of these solutions work you need to send your Xbox in for repairs.

If I clear the system cache, will that erase any data stored on the system?

The only thing it does that effects you is that if there were any updates to the games your playing (Example: Modern warfare 3), you would have to download them again but they really don't take that long.

If Clearing cache doesn't work, try removing the hard drive and putting it back again. And if that doesn't work try contacting Xbox 360 support.
