Unable to upgrade to GOLD because of old Windows Live account

I'm not sure this is the right subject to have in this part of the forums, but it's related to purchasing so I'll write it here anyway.

 

I was going to upgrade my silver account to gold, and was asked to verify the computer I'm using to check if it's secure. However, I am unable to do so since they're asking me to log on to my ancient Live-account, which I used about 6 years ago. When trying to log in, it says it's not even a legit account. I'm starting to realize I might need to contact Windows Live support for this, but maybe someone here has got/had the same problem?
