Trouble transferring data to new hard drive

Hello,

I have an original white xbox 360 with a 20 gb hard drive that I have been using for a while. I recently wanted to get a bigger hard drive so I bought a 120 gb hard drive. I also bought the transfer cable that came with the disk. However, when I try doing the data transfer it doesn't work. With the disk in the xbox and the both hard drives connected, there is no prompt to initiate the transfer. When I go to system preferences, the xbox only recognizes the new hard drive as a USB disk and if I chose to configure it than I only partition 16 gb. I'm not sure but I think the problem is that my xbox doesn't recognize the 120 gb hard drive. Is there any think I can do to solve or go around the problem so that I can successfully transfer my data?

Thanks

I would also like to add that if I run the xbox with the new 120 gb hard drive attached and that's all, than the xbox still doesn't recognize it and it says that I have no storage.

With the 120GB attached to the console, it doesn't recognize any storage? You might want to reformat it or take it back to where you bought it from.

Not certain it will if its only detecting it as an usb....

Do you restart the console when the cable is connecting them? I don't know a ton about the transfer cable, but from I do know, you need to restart.

Yes I have tried restarting it, and I have tried all the USB ports, front and back, and I have tried with the hard drives switched around and nothing works.

Which drive do you have attached to the console? the 120 or the 20?

If you want to format the 120 before using, attach the 120, go to system settings > storage > highlight whatever device and press 'Y' for options. You'll be able to format there after typing in the serial.

Hey Kamodo, where did you purchase your transfer cable from? Was it purchased from an official Xbox retailer, or was it purchased online from a site like eBay?

I got from ebay but its microsoft brand. Plus when the hard drive is attached via USB through the transfer cable it appears on the xbox but as a USB. So the transfer cable is doing something.
