there I was, a couple of months ago, all excited about the release of Black Ops 2, I couldn't wait for
it to come out. On it's first day of release I shoot down to the game store
when they open and pick up my shiny new copy. I rushed back to my office and
"tested it" for a few hours and it was great. I couldn't wait to get
home and try it out online.
wife insisted I eat my dinner before heading off to play BO2, I threw it down
my throat, opened a beer and put the game into my console, I quickly applied
updates and then my first multi-player game began, but it was obvious from the
start that something wasn't right, I was dying so fast and getting almost no
kills. My connection was OK, three bars, it is never fantastic here, I live in
a rural area, but I normally have DL speed of about five megs and upload at
about 1 meg, but a ping of around 90ms. I play Halo 4, MW3 etc, and rarely
encounter any network problems, but now with BO2 9 games out of ten are ruined
by terrible lag and the rubbish lag compensation. So after a few weeks I
thought they would sort it out with an update, but that just hasn't happened,
in fact it has probably gotten worse, while other games still play fine.
then to add insult to injury, when I put the game in my console tonight I have
a message waiting to say that I have been put on probation beacause I left too
many games, when in fact most times I can't even play the feck_in thing. I am
normally the quietest, mild mannered guy around, but I let out some price
expletives tonight. Probation means I have to wait 5 minutes to play, I never
even want to play the pox ridden game, but one close friend of mine insists on
playing it, even do he has connectivity problems too.
spoke to my other XBox friends about the lag and they just laughed at me and
said: what did you expect, it's Treyarch, do you not remember COD3? Of course I
did, but I didn't think Treyarch could get it so badly wrong again. Especially
after all the threats of class actions from so many different groups against
Treyarch and COD3.
you Google "Lag" and "Black Ops 2" you will see that many
other people are having the exact problem too and Treyarch ave released details
on how to minimise the lag, which don't work, things we have already done for
other games like port forwarding. (i'm a network engineer and Microsoft Partner
so am really an Uber Techie).
I was about to throw BO2 in the fire, but my wife persuaded me to bring it back
to the shop and ask for my money back as the game is so faulty and not fit for
purpose, I'll do that in the next few days.
know that I'll have lots of idiots moaning that I shouldn't have started a new
thread on this topic, that there are already loads, or proclaiming from on high in their squeaky fourteen-year-old voices,
that BO2 is the best game ever. And maybe it is, if you live next to your
broadband cabinet with a perfect ping, but let’s face it, millions of people
don't and many people have much worse connections than mine, (which is normally
perfect for playing on XBox live).
being put on probation was the ultimate insult to me. I'm the kind of dull,
boring person who does nothing wrong, everything by the book. Beautiful wife,
three gorgeous little kids. Never drives to fast, doesn't smoke, no penalty
points on my licence, etc, then to be told by a stupid message from Treyarch
that I've been put on probation for breaking the rules!! Boy, am I mad!! Dodgy
connections is their problem, not mine.
I'm comforted by the thoughts that you will always rot in gaming hell, after
releasing a second game with so many problems.
is safely tucked up nicely in its box, with the receipt, in my car, waiting to
go back to the shop
never play it again and I'll never buy a Treyarch title again
on you Treyarch!
