Skyrim stuck at 8%

I just purchased Skyrim and it gets stuck on 8% every time I try to download it.

I have tried clearing my system cache, deleting the incomplete file, restarted the Xbox, and restarted my modem and router. Still gets stuck at 8%.

Yesterday I downloaded the halo 4 map pack just fine. I also downloaded Rayman Raving Rabbits last night with no problems. I have the new Xbox with a 250GB HD and plenty of free space.

Anyone got any ideas?

One more thing. The downloaded is removed from my active downloads after it sits at 8% for a couple minutes, then a notification pops up saying sky rim can't be downloaded.

Just a question but have you tried resuming the download from the 8% it gets stuck at?  like let it tell you it cant download anymore,  close that window and then try going back in and telling it to download again.  It should continue where it left off and maybe will get passed the 8% sections.

I would also recommend you open up the ports that live requires for best possible connections which includes download of files from their servers.

support.xbox.com/.../network-ports-used-xbox-live

Above is a link to the required ports as well as instructions on how to forward ports for specific routers, if you are not familiar with doing so.

I would try doing both those and then let us know if it works :)

I have tried resuming the download after it gets stuck and it's still getting hung up at 8%. And I have the recommended ports forwarded.

I don't understand what the issue is because I have downloaded games after trying to download skyrim and still no luck.

Is there anything else I could try?

Just seems weird, if the rest of the games are able to download after Skyrim  but just not Skyrim itself, makes me wonder if there is an issues on the servers end and not you. Have you indeed downloaded any full games since the purchase of Skyrim? and they all work to complete?

I do have another suggestion, if possible though, I would attempt to download it onto a separate USB drive, if you have any 8gig +(preferably 16-32gig) USB keys lying around or a USB HDD, just plug it into the Xbox let it do its format and then try downloading the game again, but this time making sure the game goes onto that storage device. If it works, you should be able to move it onto the HDD if you so chose to and hopefully, moving it will go past 8%.

Let me know.

Yeah I have downloaded full games since skyrim and they work fine. I'm thinking it's server side also because other people are having the same issue with other games. I will try the usb drive when I get home and will let you know.

I'm trying to get this game to download to my 16GB USB drive. When I go to my account history and select download again, I don't get option to change my storage device. It just shows Save to: Hard Drive, and Hard Drive is greyed out.

This game is only 3.68 GB. and there is nothing on my USB drive...Anyone know how to change my storage device when trying to redownload a game?

Nope. Started to download to memory unit and got the same results. 8% and then says Can't download Skyrim.

I have tried it all. I guess I will have to wait until MS clears up this issue, because I'm not the only one having it. :(

Hey there, have you tried deleting your Marketplace System Data? Delete the incomplete file (skyrim) and then follow these steps:

  • On your console, go to Settings, and then select System.
  • Select Storage and then select your primary storage device.
  • Select System Items.
  • Select Marketplace System Data.
  • Select Delete.
  • Restart your console.
  • Try to buy or download the item again

Try that and let me know if it works.

Many thanks,

Cloud
