Signing into LIVE on games.

Basically what has happened is that for some reason, whenever I go to play a game (like Modern Warfare 3 for example), my console loses connection to xbox live and can't get it back unless I'm on the dashboard.

This all started last night and now the error has persisted. I try to connect while on the game and it says XBOX LIVE has lost connection. What can I do to fix this? Please reply ASAP as it's important for me. I have to play clan ops later and if I can't make it, I'll get kicked from my clan.

Hi Lewis Lunaris, first of all i would suggest that you delete your cache folder then reset both your Xbox and router / modem. Make sure you're router / modem syncs AND authenticates before switching the Xbox back on.

I had the same problem and the steps above worked for me.

Will you let us know how you get on?

What will happen if I do delete the cache folder? I've never actually done it before.

Hi Lewis.

Rest assured nothing untoward will happen by doing this action. All it will do is clear out old temporary files and data.

Here is a link to the section on the xbox support site for more info and instruction  on how to do it.

Hi Lewis!

Tell me a bit about your setup.  Are you connected via LAN cable or wireless?  If wireless, have you tried plugging it in directly?  If wired, have you tried using another patch cable?  From what you're describing (and as an MSCE I've gone through this before with my own console), it sounds like it could be a layer 1 issue.

It's a wireless connection, but because my room is upstairs and the modem is downstairs, we don't have a cable long enough to reach my xbox.

Also even after resetting my modem as well as deleting the cache folder, it still won't let me.
