problem with redeem 12 mo live code

the previous 12 mo membership expires march 2014, I bought another 12 month card off amazon and i am getting a error message when trying to type in the code.

I am getting the same error. A quick google suggests that it comes up when there are problems with billing info. I've checked all my billing info and its all correct, I don't know what to do now.

Try to redeem the code on both xbox.com and your console. You can update your billing info on My Account > Change my billing address, which is under Billing. You also have to make sure that your account is in the same region as the card.

I got the same error as the people above and good ol' Microsoft still has yet to help... I Guess after the 3 clueless xbox ambassadors couldn't get back to me on WTF is going on with the problem as Its Been almost a month since I heard anything back...

I have same issue - seems to be very common and no one at MS seems to know its happening. Certainly no FAQ etc on the problem.

Speaking to online support now and they appear to be helpful - perhaps give that a try

OK - this is what worked for me.

First off:

I bought the original 1M with my CC which I later deleted off my account.

I then bought a 3M and got all the errors I have posted above, and which other users have reported.

Apparently:

When you delink a CC you cannot renew a membership - you must wait for the old one to expire.

It also appears as if different zones have different renewal types - so if you had a renewal which you cancelled you can only renew the same type (1M and 1M). You cannot "renew" from a 1M to a 3M for example. The 1M must first expire.

I waited till mine expired and then my code worked.

Strange that MS does not see the need to tell people why something fails, but chooses instead to provide a cryptic error code.

Im my case, I have actual 1M membership. I removed my CC too on the last month, Last week, I bought 12M and I got the error. Should I wait my 1M expire, to subscribe without error ? Is it right ?

Exactly. I tried 6am local time yesterday and it failed.

A few hours later I logged on, got the message that my gold had expired.

Redeemed the code on this web page and it worked
