Playing a game 1 week before release?

I ordered Madden 13 off of eBay and the shipping should come in on Monday...the game is released on Aug. 29th. Does anyone KNOW FOR SURE if I'll be banned from playing Madden if I got on XBOX LIVE with the game early? I mean, Ive seen people on my list play games early before but is there a even a slight possibility of me *** myself?

I'd rather just play offline on a different account if this is an issue

If you purchased the game legit, then I can't see you having many problems to be honest, however you will be doing so at your own risk.  Some companies do issue press releases to warn you over playing the game early, others (like bungie) just say that its ok to game early but any multiplayer stats will be reset on the day of release.

Oh, and don't get excited thinking the game will turn up on Monday, I've heard that on these forums 100 times before ;)

Like another person stated, it could be a review copy. I used to review games off a site and ended up getting a few games sent to me to review weeks before the official release date. I couldn't see MS banning you for such a thing unless it was an illegal downloaded copy or something.

eBay is not a review site, but the seller might still have a review copy.

The Golden Rule to everything Xbox is: If you have to ask if it's ok, then you probably shouldn't do it. You can survive a couple of days or hours to play it on launch day. Be safe!

But Ebay is not a game review site, and people who review games dont have to pay for the games that they get. But as long it is a legit copy, the poster should be fine. He will have to understand that there maybe certain features of the game that will not be available, like the multiplayer and states will be reset when the game is released.

I have seen it before. If you think about it, eBay should get in trouble if anything plus copies are sent out early to reviewers anyway.

I'd say you will be ok.

It would be better to not play it at all until the release date, so you reduce all possible bans to 0%.

Happy gaming

Hello,

Absolutely nothing wrong with playing a game before release date. As long as you've gotten the game legitimately. I received Gears of War 3 a week before it was released from a store making a mistake and actually selling it to me, I asked DMZilla at the time and he said that it would be fine as long as it's a retail copy. The XBOX Live Enforcement Team can instantly detect if a disc is a legitimate retail disc, or one that's a fake or bootleg being played. I doubt anyone would really be on to play it online with you, and I can't guarantee that there won't be bugs as some companies do release day 1 title updates on the games actual release date so that'd be a risk you'd be taking.

But, other than that, it should be fine.
