Original Xbox Games Unplayable?

To begin, I would like to confirm that I have tried everything in the guide found on these forums regarding original Xbox games. Specifically the game discs, no downloadable originals. I've cleared my HDD's cache, reformatted it, reinstalled the latest system update several times and tried playing numerous Xbox games including one I know is compatible, Ninja Gaiden, all to no avail. I would hate to have to drag out my original Xbox just to play certain games when the compatibility for most should be readily available. So basically, what I am asking is if anyone has any information on how to remedy this issue? What could be causing such a problem? Any tips or tricks I may have overlooked? Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated! =)

What's actually happening when you try to play the games (error messages and so forth) and is your HDD the offical one?

Oops, sorry. Forgot to include the error message! It's the typical "Game could not be started, please download the game again." message.

Is it an official Microsoft HDD?

Also, are you signed in to live when you start the game?

As far as I know it is an official HDD. Is there any way of confirming if it is or not? Also, yes, I am signed into live every time I try to play the games.

Did you buy it from a reputable retailer (Gamestop etc)?

I did not, I won it on eBay. However it wasn't from Hong Kong nor does it look or feel like any "fakes" I have seen people showing. It's also a 20GB HDD if that helps. Is there anyway to confirm if it's official? Would Microsoft be able to confirm through it's information on the bottom? But lets say it is official, which I'm pretty sure it is, what would be my next step?

Only other things I can think of is to check the games are from the same region as the console you're trying to play on or to try playing the games on a friend's console and see if they work there. I know the 20GB HDDs can do the backward compatible stuff because I have one so I can play Project Zero 2.
