Manage Xbox Music Cloud, without using the Music App

Hello,

I’m looking for a way to manage my Xbox cloud music without using the (horrendous) Windows 8 Music App.

Some of my albums have synced to the cloud, and I DON’T want this. Because now, the albums that are in the cloud won’t play on my Surface if there’s no internet connection, even though I already have those albums on the Surface’s storage. Why is the Music App telling me I can’t play local storage in the app (except by going “open file”) instead of trying to default to streaming??

Basically I want to take EVERYTHING out of my Xbox Music Cloud. It’s a massive headache and I want nothing to do with it. I’ve tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it about 10 times, I’ve even blown away everything and done the huge reset with Windows RT, but still, somewhere in the cloud, there’s a list of music that my devices have sync’d and I don’t want that.

I don’t know if Microsoft read these forums, but they should be ashamed at the condition this app was released in. It’s truly awful, and yes, infinitely worse than iTunes, which I don’t like either.

Hey there AJLawless,

There is a way to turn off the Cloud feature of the Xbox Music app.  When in the Xbox Music app, open the Charms Bar and select Settings>Preferences.  There you will see two "switches" under Xbox Music Cloud.  Turn those off.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks.

Hello Mister Parks. No that doesn't work. As you can see from the first screenshot, I've disabled ALL cloud related functions.

But now have a look at the following screenshot. See the albums with the broadcast icon?? I can only stream these when I'm connected to the internet, and only for 30 seconds for each track!! The worst part?? These albums are ALREADY on my Surface! Why can't I play these natively in the app? :(

Basically what I'm looking to do, is to see ALL the albums that are in my "cloud collection" somewhere, so I can delete them. I don't want any music in the cloud, because it's just all wrong. I can post another screenshot later where the app has duplicated an album.. one for local storage, one for the cloud. the cloud album meta data is also totally wrong. Why??????

After reading this thread, i took a closer look at my music collection. A large chunk of my albums, all on a HDD in my desktop btw) have also magically appeared on the cloud, and also a fair few have the broadcast icon as well. Be interesting to know why the app does this.

This article describes how your music gets "matched", which I get.

What I DON'T get, nor want, is for this to happen in the first place. More to the point, I want to access this cloud locker, wherever it is, and delete everything that's in there and against my account.

Well that link explains why the app does what it does, albeit not very well really. I have 'unknown' albums now according to Xbox Music, whereas the Zune Media Player totally disagrees and says every album is known and properly tagged, I agree the app needs an option to turn this 'match' option on or off.

Xbox Music app matched the wrong songs to the cloud, how do I delete these songs from my cloud collection????

This is extremely frustrating.

I don't really understand what it tries to move to the cloud in my 500gb music collection, it is all random stuff. I would love to know how it decides what 25Gb of 500Gb it puts there. I have also disabled the cloud storage on all of my devices, Desktop and laptop and it still seems to keep stuff on there. There needs to be a tool like the old Zune Media Collection reset tool for the cloud, lol.

AJLawless, try this:

Backup your music

Turn on the cloud toggles in Xbox Music on Surface

Give it an hour or so to sync up

Delete all music from your surface using the controls provided in the Music app

Give it an hour to sync the deletions to your cloud

Turn off the cloud toggles

Restore your collection from your backup

That's a really bad solution.  There should be a way to manually select what is in the cloud or not.  It's random and automatic.
