Family Pack question

I was given a  standard 12 month Xbox Live Gold subscription card.  I am currently using the Family Pack subscription, and it is coming up for renewal soon.  Can I use the 12 month Gold card to pay for some of the Family pack renewal?

I doubt it but at least you can just share a gamertag.

Hello BCSBuck,

So you are asking if you can use a regular 12 month Xbox LIVE Gold card to pay for part of the Xbox LIVE Family Gold Pack?  If so, I'm sorry but there is no option to do this.  I hope this answers your question, if you have any others please feel free to ask.

Hmmm my friend does that all the time he says.  You won't get all 12 months, but you will get some.  He might unfamily one of the members, add the 12 months to that account and then add them back in five days . . .  I seem to remember that when I was setting up the family account that we have, the extra months just got tacked onto the end.  I don't know if it works, but heard that it did.

Maybe, I misunderstood the Family Pack FAQ.  I will check again though, but for now the best place to post is the Support Forums.

I have a family pack. I have seen where I got a discount for the time I already had, or where all the accts got a bit of extra time. But hey, in the end that family pack is way cheaper than multiple single accts.

Q: I am currently an Xbox LIVE Gold member. If I have time remaining on my current subscription, do I receive a discount on an Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack?

A: We will give existing Xbox LIVE Gold members a prorated discount on the purchase of a Family Pack. This discount will be based on how many months remain on your existing Gold Membership and the amount of the discount varies by region. You will see the discount amount during the checkout process before your order is final.

That's from the FAQ that can be found here. Not sure if it helps but it is a good read on the plan.

That prorated discount won't translate over for this though fyerball because that was for when your first purchased the family plan.  For instance, when I joined I had around 3 months of gold left on mine, and my son had 8 months or so.  I got around a $12 discount towards my family plan for the months left on my account, and then I had around 4 months or so, tacked on to the end of our family gold plan for the months left on my son's account.  And what green eyed lo suggested removing one member from the family plan and then adding them back on.  You will only get like 3 months added to your family gold.  You are not going to get as good of a deal as when they first introduced the family plan.  I would suggest trying to return the gold card or selling it, and then putting it towards your family gold plan.  It isn't great though because I have around 3 one month gold memberships sitting around, and they are pretty much uselss to me since I have the family gold plan.

Ah I see. Yea back when the first activated the family plan I had like a month left and so did one of my sons. We only got like two weeks added to our family plan for that. (I think) I just renewed it back at the end of December and it rolled over so I never really got to know if there was a discount.

I think it still happens, I just think that MS "makes sure" it's not profitable for you to buy a year of gold to extend your family gold plan.  :D

I heard one account could buy a 12 month gold prepaid card at a discount at ebay or amazon. Activate the 12 month card on the account you wish to turn into primary account family pack, wait 3-5 days then immediately follow up by upgrading to family pack.  Time will be credited towards family pack and you stack on xbox rewards and save money from paying for the full 12 month subscription.
