error code 80070057

i can sign into my xbox and it gives me no problems. me or  my husband. my dashboard offers me a month free of xbox live gold.when i click to purchase it says it cant retrieve information from xbox live and has error code i typed above. it signs me into xbox live just fine. my husband has purchased a gold subscription many times and has never had a problem. any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

This error occurs when the account you are trying to redeem the offer on does not have a valid payment option attached to it. You will need to add a valid credit card. You will not be charged unless you turn on auto renewal which you can do by logging into your account at xbox.com and set auto renewal to off. Otherwise at the end of your free month you will be billed $9.99. By default auto renewal is set to on.

The steps F0LEN has suggested are correct. You will need a valid debit/credit card or paypal account on file in order to be eligible for the free month offer. I would also suggest making sure automatic renewal is turned off after you make the purchase. You can turn it off online by following this link: https://live.xbox.com/en-US/Account?xr=mebarnav or by calling Xbox Phone Support @ 800-469-9269

Hi there Moo Im a ssnake, a billing address is the information used for processing a credit card transaction. This information includes name on the bank account (or bank card), address that the bank account is registered to and possibly a phone number and contact email address.

hi  i have had the error code pop up when i was purchasing the 1 month free gold that is on my dashboard and it keeps saying " sorry there's a problem with the xbox service. try again later. and the status/error code is 80070057 can some tell me what i am doing wrong or tell me what to do.

Also, like others have said in this thread, you need to have a valid payment instrument attached to your account in order to get the free month offer. This can be a credit/debit card or paypal account.

he's wrong as the choose payment option button is rubbed out for the free trial

Hi MaskOfDeath, you will need to add a payment instrument before trying to accept the free trial offer. This can be done by going to Settings>Account>Manage Payment Option

I'm not sure if here is the right place to ask, but I googled the error code and this came up, do I guess it's my best shot. I have a Nokia Lumia 710 phone, and I reset it to the factory settings yesterday. When I had reset it up as I wanted it, I tried to get back the apps I had before by redownloading them, but it came up with the error code "80070057" when I click on the tiles that say they need attention. If I go into the marketplace, I just get a message saying the marketplace is not available in my country/region. It has been before and was in fact when I managed to download the apps the first time, before they stopped. I'm taking my phone back to the shop to see if they can sort it tomorrow, but I had to make one last attempt. I live in a relatively busy town in England, if that helps. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
