Early Release Games will NOT Play

I'll start by saing that I have access to multiple XBOX 360's so I can do testing between them

On one of my original XBOX 360 units (not elite or slim), I can't play some games.  When I put the disk in, the XBOX indicates 'reading' but then returns to a state where my only option is to open the door - as if no disk was in the drive at all.  What makes things weirder is that it only does this with some disks.  They all seem to be early release games like:  Oblivion, Kameo, Dead Rising, Lost Planet.  All late release games and new games work.  These games work in 2 other XBOXes that I've got.

Anyone ever hit anything like this?

I can't install because the XBox does not even recoginize that a disk is in the drive.  There are no errors - all that happens is it starts reading the disc and then returns to "open door" or whatever.

I suppose that I could install the game on the hard drive while it was attached to another xbox - perhpaps I will try that.

@Mister darcy - Play some games dude!  Your Avatar looks all lonely up there.  I did try the walkthrough.  Discs are correct region as they play in other units.  They are clean and nothing changes if I remove the peripherals.

I was considering getting a DVD lens cleaning kit, but I kinda think those are a scam.  Any thoughts?

Hey wongo - we don't recommend those because they may scratch the laser lens. Unfortunately if you are still experiencing the issue after running through the wizard that Mister Darcy provided, then you may need to have that console repaired. You can set up that repair here: myservice.xbox.com/.../Welcome.aspx . One thing to note is that you will need to sign in with your account to view that site. I'm very sorry I don't have better news for you!

That XBox went the way of the red ring, so I haven't continued testing.

Xbox now use new Disks with more memory than the older disks so more content fits on them and the problem you are seeing is that the old cd drive in the xbox cannot read the new disks. Hope this helped.
