I tried all the suggested steps, but I don't know what to do. I thought buying the HDD would be enough.

Yeah. It seems legit. Every other function of the HDD works. It even says the thing is an official one.

The drive came from a seller in Chicago. It still had the plastic peel thingy and was in a plastic shell.

Ok, can someone give me a straight answer or not? What do I do? Who do I talk to?  I need to know what will make my Xbox Original play that doesn't cost money.

Ok, never mind... I guess I'm not going to get a response quick enough here. I guess I need to talk to tech support since they can actually help.

If the hard drive you bought was on the cheap side price wise, then it's more than likely a fake and not an official MS hard drive and would be the reason you can't play.

It was $75 with shipping... I did a physical inspection of the drive, it showed no signs of being modified. All the original stickers were on it, the thing was essentially brand new.

I'm sorry for being snippy, but this just makes me so mad. I'm thinking about asking the seller what's up.

It's alright. Unfortuantely that's one of the risks of buying a hard drive through places like ebay and stuff like that. Yes, the price is cheaper, but there are too many of them that are fake and you usually can't tell.
